“We are excited to bring the ACC Men’s and Women's Tennis Championships to the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. Our student-athletes have enjoyed playing in front of record crowds for their championship. This state-of-the-art facility, and the support of the Rome Sports Commission, will create a remarkable championship experience for all involved,” said Brandon Neff, ACC Assistant Commissioner for Championships.
A 2013 SPLOST project, Rome Tennis Center at Berry College is comprised of 60 USTA standard, asphalt tennis courts and includes six NCAA regulation courts, three center courts for tournament and collegiate play, a clubhouse with an expansive viewing porch, open green spaces, a family zone and more. All courts have lighting and shade structures.
"To say we are ecstatic is an understatement. We have been cultivating our relationship with ACC for some time and recently made a presentation to the ACC coaches and championship staff, to be considered a Championship site for 2018-2020," said Ann Hortman, director of the Rome Sports Commission. "To have the opportunity to showcase our facility in 2017 is an added bonus."
"The Rome, Georgia community and surrounding areas will be in for a treat as the best collegiate men's and women's tennis players in the nation compete for the 2017 ACC Tennis Crown," said Tom Daglis, RTC executive director. "We invite the community to come out to the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College and be a part of this fantastic athletic event."
“Our community made a bold statement by choosing to invest in our future and building the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College on the promise that it would be an economic development tool for our city," said Sammy Rich, Rome City Manager. Rich added that the announcement of the ACC tennis tournament represents the type and quality of tournaments that will showcase Rome as one of America’s great tennis towns.
"The ACC tennis championships will be an event like none other we have hosted," adds Hortman. "Rome will once again, extend our renowned southern hospitality to the student-athletes, families and fans and nationwide with broadcast coverage on ACC Network Extra. We have a proven track record of focusing on the student-athlete experience and hosting the championships at the Rome Tennis Center seals the deal for a championship week to remember. In addition to the natural beauty and charm of our community, our incredible partners and volunteers will be the secret to our success."
Six days of competition will bring 13 men's teams and 15 women's teams from the 15 ACC schools; beginning with a practice day on April 25, competition runs from April 26-30, 2017. Ticket information and additional details, including volunteer opportunities, will be released as plans are finalized.

With more than 400 competing gymnasts from all over the state, the meet is expected to bring in more than 4,000 spectators for the weekend.
“We’re looking forward to our own Rome Aerials hosting this huge event that is expected to have a great economic impact in Rome and Floyd County,” said Kevin Cowling, Director of Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.
“This is a very special event for Rome and Floyd County,” added Matt Zollitsch, head coach of the Rome Aerials. “I am sure Broad Street will be packed all weekend with gymnasts and their families.”
All gymnasts will be competing Friday through Sunday, and Zollitsch invites locals to come cheer on the Rome Aerials as they battle for the state title.

The Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame, which began in 1971 to honor those who stand out in local sports culture, has developed a Veterans Committee in order to recognize prospective worthy candidates for the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame.
“For the next two years, we are reaching out to individuals who may have been overlooked, but who we feel should be recognized for their accomplishments and accolades in athletics,” said Iris Kennebrew, who was inducted in 1984.
Randy Davis, a 1997 inductee, said that over the years, sometimes those who have been extremely accomplished in sports in Floyd County have moved on to other states and, during the selection process, have fallen through the cracks.
“There are a lot of people who are truly deserving of this honor, but who have left the area,” Davis said. “But that doesn’t mean they haven’t made a lasting impression on athletics in Floyd County, and now we are able to reach out to them and ensure the most deserving athletes are in the Hall of Fame.”
Hall of Fame member Larry Bing added that technology can assist the committee in reaching out to nominees who are no longer local.
“The use of social media enables the committee to pursue accomplishments of prospective nominees whose careers may have led to relocation, but whose accomplishments have left an indelible mark on Rome’s sports history,” said Bing, who was inducted in 1987. “This has eliminated some unnecessary restrictions in the nominating and selection process and better ensures the most deserving candidates are inducted.”
This year’s ceremony will be held on February 27th at Berry College’s Krannert Center Ballroom. The Willard Nixon Hall of Fame Golf Tournament which benefits the John C.
