MEDIA RELEASE: Rome, Ga – Unity Christian School hosted a grand celebration Monday night with the opening of the newly renovated Lion's Den gymnasium. An overflow crowd participated in a ribbon cutting and dedication of the new facility. Then, they all had the opportunity to cheer on the girls and boys basketball teams as they took their own home court for the first time ever.

The opening of the Lion's Den was filled with excitement and full school participation. It was appropriate that the new Lion's Den echoed with the roar of a large crowd all night. The event was hosted by the athletic booster club and included a performance by the Lion's of Steel pep band. The school chorus sang the inaugural National Anthem. Unity fans were also treated to a new full service concession stand, contests, and give-aways throughout the evening's events.

According to Headmaster Glenn Getchell, "This is a historic night for Unity. This is more than just a gymnasium. Since June, we have added upgrades throughout the school to insure that students have the best possible opportunities to learn, succeed, and pursue God’s purpose and plan for their lives. Our faculty and Board of Directors are committed to maintaining Unity as a trusted source of Christian education for all parents and churches in our area."

The Lion's Den gymnasium is a part of Unity's Beyond the Books and Buildings capital campaign. As a part of the multi-phase campaign, current improvements to the school include the addition of new science labs, modular classroom space, playgrounds, technology upgrades, security enhancements and the new gymnasium. Each phase has been an effort to offer state of the art learning environments to Unity students.

The new Lion's Den gymnasium will be the site of home games and practices for the Unity Christian School basketball, volleyball, and wrestling teams. The more than 9000 square feet of gym floor space will be used to enhance physical education opportunities for Unity students. The facility will also play host to Unity fine arts productions and large school assemblies. In addition, the school plans to use the new gymnasium to host winter and indoor sports tournaments.

Unity Christian School is located at 2960 New Calhoun Hwy NE, Rome, GA. The school was founded in 1998 by a group of local pastors who recognized a need in Northwest Georgia for a Christ centered educational facility that would seek to minister to the spiritual and academic needs of Christian parents and students. To accomplish this goal, Unity Christian School offers a Pre-K3 through 12th grade vertically aligned curriculum designed to stimulate critical thinking, problem solving, written and verbal communication of original thought.
