2nd Annual Braves Celebrity Golf Shootout

Rome, GA – The Rome Braves & Floyd County Police Department have announced date of the 2nd Annual Braves Celebrity Shootout to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Rome. Registration and driving range will begin at 9:30am with a shotgun start at 11am. The tournament will be held on Friday November 12 at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome with an awards reception afterwards. Teams or individuals can register at the Floyd County Police Station or at the ticket office located at State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves. Hole and team sponsorships are available as well. This year’s celebrities include Rome Braves manager Randy Ingle as well as former Rome Braves manager Rocket Wheeler. Other surprise celebrities will be announced at a later date.

Randy Ingle just finished his 19th season as a manager in the Braves organization and his fifth with the Rome Braves. Ingle’s previous managerial stints in the Atlanta farm system include Myrtle Beach, Macon, Richmond, Greenville, Durham, and Pulaski. He has twice been named the organization’s Minor League Manager of the Year. In 1997, Ingle led the Greenville Braves to the Southern League Championship and was named the Southern League Manager of the Year.

This year’s tournament will be Rocket Wheeler’s second. Braves fans will remember Wheeler as the first Rome Braves manager (2003-2005). During the 2003 inaugural season, Wheeler led Rome to the South Atlantic League Championship en route to being named the Braves’ Minor League Manager of the Year. Following the 2008 season, he garnered the prestigious honor of being named by Baseball America as the Minor League Manager of the Year as well as the Carolina League Manager of the Year.

Each tournament participant will have an opportunity to play a par three hole with the featured celebrities on the course. Celebrities will be placed at each par three. As part of the Celebrity foursome, each group will receive an additional shot from the featured celebrity on that hole.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens and provide a safe place to learn and grow. Former members of the Boys & Girls Club of Rome are being asked to participate in the tournament or to merely donate $5-10 to the proceeds in an effort to benefit this community asset.
